The Windsor Secret eBook David Cullen
When I bought The Windsor Secret I was looking for answers, mistaking it for fact. Make no mistake about it, David Cullen has penned a book that he calls faction, and there is a lot of fact contained on the pages. Where the line lies between fact and fiction, hence faction, is less clear. What is clear is that this book is fast paced, dark, dangerous, and a very good read. The Windsor Secret is a continuation of The Mesrine Conclusion 18 years on and someone is killing to find out the secret, a fact that is not in evidence when the police begin investigating three murders that seem to be linked. Do they have a serial killer or is it just coincidence?
The conclusion to the investigation will surprise you, as will some of the politics involved in the special division that handles all things foreign in the French government. Cullen writes as though he knows the world of foreign affairs in foreign governments and he knows Carlos the Jackal, aka Illich Ramírez Sánchez from Venezuela, one of the most ruthless assassins in the world.
The Jackal is another piece of this international puzzle and there are two women who are out to catch him and put him down. One of the women escorted him to France to be imprisoned for life in solitary confinement, a confinement that the Jackal never saw since he was switched with a look alike.
There are many pieces to this international puzzle and Cullen lines them up and knocks them down with ease and style. According to Cullen, the Secret is what got Lady Di killed and what killed the Duchess of Windsor in her bedroom as she slept and many others who have died under mysterious circumstances and the Jackal was the agent of death. There is nothing mysterious about The Windsor Secret. It is a straight forward international espionage thriller that gives enough fact to make the fiction plausible -- and very real. It is as if Cullen has given the reader an inside tour of the British royal family and the private lives of people in and out of the news. I highly recommend The Windsor Secret for its artful blend of fact and fiction. It is a ride you won't soon forget.

The Windsor Secret eBook David Cullen Reviews
Twisty, twisty. So many facts mixed with fiction. Could it really happened as the book describes, but we will never really know. As Churchill said so many lies to guard the truth. Very entertaining. Conrad
This was a great book. The storyline certainly grabbed my attention. The book was well written. It was very difficult to put down. Enjoy.

This story makes one wonder how much of this is true/based on at least some truth. It is fiction, but for anyone who followed Princess Diana's tragic death years ago it brings back many memories. Much of the action is set in France, with detectives investigating series of murders....all having to do with a shocking 'secret' going back to a member of the Royal family. Fast paced.
This novel, and it should be emphasized that it is a novel, had me in stitches when it wasn't appalling me. The connections that Cullen draws linking Carlos the Jackal, the takeover of Cyprus, Robert Maxwell, the Queen Mother, the Duchess of Windsor, and Diana were mindboggling. However, since Cullen is a former intelligence agent, maybe such seemingly preposterous collusions are possible. As it is, it seems that Cullen is trying to imitate The Girl Who Played With Fire brand with a mysterious and coldblooded female French detective as a key character. However, the writing is not as good, nor the plot as complex, although the story does move along at a rapid pace (perhaps because the reader does want to see what shock will come next). Other than the basic premise about just who was responsible for contracting Diana's death (a real shocker to say the least), another disconcerting element included the distasteful misogyny which crops up fairly often. There are also some glaring errors in facts. The September 11th attack occurred in 2001, not 2003, and Highgrove is not located in Buckinghamshire. But then, these might have been written intentionally to add to the alternate universe feel about the story.
There are too many factoids in this to call it fiction, and too much silly nonsense to call it fact.
To hang an entire novel on an idea as banal and unlikely as that Princess Diana was murdered was, in my opinion, a mistake.
Reasonably well-written, it just scrapes three stars from me, but I was disappointed overall and I can't really recommend it.
This book moves fairly fast, however I found it far fetched. The premise of the book is that the queen mother was responsible for the death of Wallis Simpson. In a weak moment she tells Princess Diana about her involvement with the death of the Duchess of Windsor. In order to keep Princess Diana silent she must be silenced.
NO SPOILERS in this particular review... I think everyone should read this cover to cover. Mr. Cullen has successfully mixed fact with fiction. This fast paced story will make you re-think everything you know about the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. I very much like the way the author was able to successfully merge action, history, drama and humor. He has an excellent grip on history and understands the proper use of titles. Explore royal intrigues and meet secret agents in search of the secret. You'll never guess what it is! Enjoy the journey.
